Stories of our Local Characters

Every small town has them. The local characters who help give the rural community its own special flavour.

Be they genuine heros, or part of a local legend or people whose kindness or eccentricities make them stand out from the local populace, each has a story, that has shaped the history of our small community.

These stories have been collected by me over the years.

Harry Albert Hill is affectionately referred to as the Mayor of Bear River. He acts as the
Ambassador of Good Will.

Annie Kempton was a heroic fifteen year old who lost her life over 100 years ago. Read her tragic tale in the
Annie Kempton Memorial.

Bob Wigmore was a young sailor who was part of the rescue during the sinking of the HMCS Fraser during WWII
The Destruction of the HMCS Fraser.
